Rehberg, Committee Approve Highway Bill, Montana Projects
Includes Rehberg requests for MT 323, Kalispell Bypass, and Bozeman parking facility
WASHINGTON, DC - Montana’s Congressman, Denny Rehberg, lauded passage of the Highway Bill, approved today by the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. The landmark bill includes Rehberg’s request for a pair of Montana highway projects and a parking garage for downtown Bozeman, in addition to Montana’s share of the highway spending bill.
“As a member of the Transportation Committee, I was able to designate specific Montana projects, which are now included in the Highway Bill,” Rehberg said. “Finally, Kalispell will get its bypass; finally the long-overdue Highway 323 will be completed.”
Approved by the committee today, the Highway Bill will include the following projects requested by Rehberg:
· $23 million for MT secondary highway 323 from Ekalaka to Alzada
· $22 million for a Four Lane Western Bypass on US 93 around Kalispell
· $5 million for a downtown Bozeman parking facility
Beyond the specific requests added by Rehberg, Montana’s highway apportionment allocation will increase to $1.8 billion in highways and $55 million in transit over six years. The Highway Bill is now slated for a vote before the full House.
Rehberg: “Fort Peck Interpretive Center Back on Track”
WASHINGTON, DC - Montana’s Congressman, Denny Rehberg, today announced the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will award a contract to Split Rock company to construct the Ft. Peck Interpretive Center. The amount, $354,000, will be awarded tomorrow for a projected late August or early September completion.
“I’m relieved the Army Corps has gotten this important project back on track, at a time when we are recognizing the bi-centennial of Lewis and Clark in Montana,” Rehberg said. “The Ft. Peck Interpretive Center, with an ability to attract and educate visitors, is important both for Montana and the local economy.”
Two weeks ago, Rehberg blasted the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for mishandling funds intended for Fort Peck Center. In a letter to Brigadier General William Grisoli, Commander of the Corps’ Northwestern Division, Rehberg objected to the Corps’ decision to take an additional 60 days to rectify the error. Rehberg also met personally with Corps officials, demanding they correct the mistake.
“This is a victory for Montana,” Rehberg said. “The Corps evidently got the message and they now have the Ft. Peck Interpretive Center back on track.”
